High School Fall Leadership Conference

The high-energy opening General Session will feature our state officer team as they share opportunities available through SkillsUSA.  Keynote speaker Charles Marcus best-selling author of Success Is Not a Spectator Sport: How to Take Action and Achieve More will enlighten us with his presentation.

Pre-Conference Registration Activities

 

Pre-Conference Exhibits and Displays will be setup near Registration and the Ballroom.  Schools will register on the Second Floor Landing Area at the Hyatt Regency prior to heading up to the Third-Floor Ballroom.

Local Officer Training Institute—Friday morning

Regional Elections —  Friday Morning

There will be a variety of breakout sessions this year covering areas both related career-preparation and leadership development as well as SkillsUSA Specific Sessions.  Check back soon for a menu of options and suggestions for students and advisors.  Please note that these sessions will run until approximately 5:00 pm and will be a different format than we have had in the past.  Specific sessions for Officer Candidates and Voting Delegates will happen during the final hour.  All Candidates and Delegates will be required to attend the sessions.

 

On Friday Morning each of the 6 Regions hold their Delegate Assembly. At the Assemblies the 6 Regional Officer teams that will represent the Region in Washington D.C. in January are elected.  Previous Regional Officers in good standing are invited to return and participate in the ceremony.

All schools are encouraged to send Voting Delegates.  See Delegate Strength Sheet for the number you are eligible for:  Download Delegate Strength

Advisors have the opportunity to participate in their own breakout sessions or to participate in the student sessions. Advisor specific sessions will focus on SkillsUSA updates, Industry and Technology Updates, and Chapter improvement.  Check back for a more detailed agenda. Certificates of Attendance are available.

 

Hyatt Regency Hotel Registration Information

For the schools to make hotel reservations at the Hyatt for Fall Conference, they can either phone in at 888-421-1442 or  Click here for online registration  Reservations must be made by Oct. 1, 2010.  Schools staying at the Hyatt Regency Hotel will receive a complimentary parking pass for any yellow school buses or professional charter busses from SkillsUSA Ohio.

 

 

Statehouse Tours

Students and Advisors are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to visit the Statehouse for a tour and possible visit with their local legislators.  Due to other activities at the statehouse this year the Tours will be on Thursday Morning prior to the opening session.  They are available by appointment only using form below.  Students participating in the activity are eligible for Ohio’s Legislative Award.

Opening General Session

SkillsUSA Champions Celebration—8:30 pm

We will have a celebration Dance activity for students and advisors beginning at 8:30 pm at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.  There will not be an evening session prior to this event so that schools have some time to spend together and enjoy the conference atmosphere.  Candidates will be encouraged to attend the Celebration.

We are able to bring back an training opportunity for Local Chapter Officers.  Keynote Speaker Peyton Holland along with several Alumni and State Advisors will be presenting a series leadership sessions geared directly to the Local Officer.  Sessions will include leadership and teambuilding and the opportunity to practice an opening ceremony.  All officers who complete the sessions and workbook will receive their Local Officer Statesman Award. 

We are investigating the potential of doing a community service project, if you have students and/or advisors interested in participating in a project on Friday morning please email mike.cowles@ode.state.oh.us by September 15.
